Refugee Resettlement Partnership

Helping refugee families realize their dreams in Gettysburg

Imagine starting over from nothing in a new country with a new language and a strange culture.

Two Afghan families who came to Gettysburg with the support of the Refugee Resettlement Partnership of Gettysburg (RRP) have done just that, thanks to passionate volunteers, our partnership churches, and others.

RRP is a local partnership among nine churches and other interfaith partners and individuals working together to assist the families as they settled into their new homes in the United States. RRP has offered sponsorship, assistance, and friendship since the families arrived in Gettysburg in 2022.

In this process, our churches and volunteers discovered the power of purpose in our own lives and a shared mission to help the families begin new lives in the United States, as generations of refugees before them have, realizing the American dream.

Since we welcomed our families to Gettysburg, more than 50 RRP volunteers have helped the families:

  • Find jobs.

  • Work toward independence.

  • Get education and training.

  • Navigate our healthcare system.

  • Participate in American culture and share Afghan culture.

The families have accomplished so much! Now they are building on their achievements to make their dreams as contributing citizens of the United States come true. They have learned English and how to drive. They have gotten jobs, graduated from high school, started college, and set up home businesses.

"Sharing my gifts with our new neighbors from Afghanistan is as spontaneous and natural as helping my own daughters, nieces and nephew. We are called to love one another."
